about me

Hi, I’m Alex, I’m a landscape designer, a plant nerd and I’m deeply passionate about helping the environment.

First off, thanks for stopping by and checking out my website, it honestly means the world to me!

A brief overview of my life and what brought me to where I am now:

-I’ve lived in or around Harford County my whole life and I love this town

-I worked at the Best Buy in Bel Air for about 10 years after high school and during college. In my first round of college I got my degree in history at Harford Community College.

-After working retail and not using my degree I knew I needed a change. So I packed up my belongings and my dogs and set off on a road trip. We spent 3 months traveling around the United States, stopping at cute little town, seeing gorgeous national and state parks and visiting friends along the way. It was monumental and profound.

-Upon returning I knew I wanted to work with nature and discovered the world of horticulture. Through word of mouth I found out there was this program called The American Landscape Institute or ALI, that partnered companies in the green industry with students going to school to learn horticulture.

-I joined ALI and started working at Hampton National Historic Site as the garden intern and started taking classes at CCBC in their Sustainable Horticulture program.

-While at Hampton I worked under the Head Horticulturist and she was a wealth of knowledge. Teaching me proper gardening techniques, testing my plant knowledge and supporting me through my learning journey. I am so grateful to have had such an amazing mentor.

-I graduated from CCBC with my Sustainable Horticulture Certification and was a part of the 2nd Cohort to complete the ALI program. While at school and part of ALI I went to several conferences and seminars, made some great friends, and made many professional connections within the industry.

-Upon graduating that marked the end of my time at Hampton so it was on to discovering a new location to expand my knowledge. That’s when I discovered Lauren’s Garden Service in Ellicott City. I was hired on as a crew member but quickly became a crew leader based on experience and performance. And then within a year and a half I was promoted to Project Manager, where I truly got to build on my skills. At Lauren’s they focus on installing native plants and gardens that help with storm water management. I got to sell, design and manage the projects from beginning to end which I loved! My work here truly broadened my understanding and abilities.

-A couple years after graduating I was offered a seat on the board of ALI as a representative of the alumni and to have a voice for the students. I was so honored to receive this position within a program that allowed me to completely change my life.

-After 3 years as a Project Manager at Lauren’s I was promoted to Landscape Manager, where I ran the entire landscaping division of the company while also continuing to do project management. Which was rewarding in new ways as I got to put together and manage the landscape crew members/leaders and help mentor them so they could grow and hone their skills

-I truly appreciate my time at Lauren’s and highly recommend going there to check out their native plant retail nursery or to have your gardens installed by professionals who know how to do it the right way!

-After my time at Lauren’s I knew I was ready to set off on my own and offer my services to my home town. I bring with me all the knowledge and wisdom that others have shared with me and all the amazing experiences I have gone through. I am truly so appreciative to my family, friends, mentors, teachers, and bosses who have supported me through my life!
